TABSA 2011
Teaching chemistry in South Africa in July, 2011 was an experience to remember for the rest of my life. The amazing beauty of the country matches the beauty of the people we were privileged to work with. Among the many things I’ll never forget are:
- The warmth, friendliness and enthusiasm of the Eastern Cape Province subject teachers and teachers from the Libode District.
- The courageous team made up of teachers from Hawaii and our friend Thokazani, a teacher from Harding, Eastern Cape Province.
- Staying up late in the night to plan for the next day’s lessons.
- Our fearless leader, Yunus Peer, whose patience and encouragement fueled our desire to give our best despite the weather and numerous unforeseeable circumstances
- Visiting elementary schools and seeing the faces of the learners with big smiles and loads of enthusiasm, so willing to learn no matter what the circumstances; knowing our work with their teachers has such a wide impact.
Thinking of all this makes me want to go back tomorrow.
