An exciting new project connected with the TAB South Africa science and math teacher training workshops is the RSA Uniform Project. TABSA Program director, Mr. Jay Seidenstein, jseidenstein@punahou.edu in cooperation with Port Shepstone Rotary Club administrator, Mr. Richard Alborough, will provide a full set of uniforms to 25 of the most deserving learners at Mdlangaswa High School based on financial need and the learner’s attitude toward school. The learner will keep the uniform in good condition and the significant parts of the uniform (pants, skirt, jacket) may be exchanged for a bigger size when necessary. Jay is also working with Ziphakamise, a social services organization in Port Shepstone, to provide 20 more uniforms to primary school children in rural areas.

The Port Shepstone Rotary Club 9270 will administer this project. Jay’s project has raised almost $4000 from friends. In addition to 45 school uniforms in 2012, TABSA has deposited enough funds with the PS Rotary for 25 complete uniforms for Mdlangaswa High School in 2013, as well as 20 new pairs of shoes for primary school children. With greater funding, TABSA hopes to expand this project next year to include more schools and more children in rural areas.
